Allows the fibroblasts subpopulation to localize near the epidermal/dermal interface. Unlike layered skin models (ex. Mattek) where fibroblasts are breaking down exogenous added collagen, CAP Skin fibroblasts can then be stimulated to make collagen, and assays developed to measure additives that stimulate collagen - a key property of "anti-aging" therapies.
